This assignment is a personal reflection based on your own school experiences. Reflect on an instance in school (early, elementary, high school, college, etc…) where you felt powerful. Describe the situation and the nature of the interactions it involved. Who and what made you feel this way? To contrast, think of a situation in school where you felt powerless and describe in the same detail. Now, think about these experiences of feeing both powerful and powerless, and how they may relate to your work as a teacher. How do such experiences connect to your responsibility as a teacher to ensure that each student has a voice, a way to be visible” in your classroom that may not be easily identifiable? Consider aspects of education that you value, appreciate, want to emulate, or avoid.
