Reply #1: Knowing the general skeptical nature of many these days, as well as a human nature aversion to change, a manager may want to use persuasion when they would like to get their employees to buy into a new program, protocol, system, or routine. Some motivational programs for example, to promote moral and therefore ultimately increase productivity or employee and consumer satisfaction, can sometimes be met with resistance. (The Army’s MWR days, or “mandatory fun” as we like to joke, comes to mind). In these cases, in order for management to get people on board for effectiveness, they may use persuasive messages. An email or memo is a good example, with an interest-capturing opening. This should be followed by a body that builds interest with a concise and logical purpose, as well as using details and facts to prove its merit, and close with a respectful call to action (Guffey et al, 222). A persuasive message in this case would be more motivating than a direct request that does not get the employee to buy into the necessity for the change.
Reply #2: In order to improve overall communication with subordinates, managers would prefer to use persuasive communication instead of straightforward requests. “Providing truthful and credible proof. The intention is not to exploit or seduce workers by deceit. Rather, the aim is to make a strong yet truthful statement, focusing on points that are relevant to the recipient or the organization” (Guffey, 226). Negotiating tactics a manager might use include giving a fair or specific proposal, presenting evidence, and establishing a reputation. Understanding the significance of defeat is also important. In other words, you should make it clear what they will sacrifice and earn if they agree to comply with what you are asking. You might even want to consider offering a different approach or even a compromise to resolve opposition. Persuasion contact can be used when a boss needs employees to stay late, work on a new initiative, or help with an event the corporation is supporting. Managers may also encourage employees to volunteer for an event, donate to a charity, or work late in certain cases. Workers get the opportunity to demonstrate how it would benefit the company and them by having an opportunity to demonstrate why it is worth their time.
