Guidelines for Statement of Purpose Assignment Your statement of purpose should indicate as specifically as possible the following:
The topic you have selected to write about for your research paper
Your primary thesis
The significance of the topic you are writing about
Three research questions that your paper will answer
The statement of purpose should be double-spaced, with hone-inch margins. Although it must be at least one page in length, you can turn in 1-12 pages if necessary. Your 15-source bibliography will be IN ADDITION to this page. A more detailed description of what should be in your paper is given below.
Title Your title does NOT have to be a final title for your paper but it should capture the essence of your paper and give a good idea of what you are writing about just by glancing at it. Be Creative
Thesis Statement Should be located in the very first paragraph of your statement of purpose. This means you should include an introductory paragraph to your research paper, not simply one sentence, your thesis. Your thesis statement is the primary argument you will make in your paper. Everything that you include in your final paper (quotes, dates, etc.) should support your thesis statement. If you do not include an introductory paragraph with the thesis located within this paragraph, you will not receive full credit in this area.
Significance of Topic You must state why it is important for people to know about this topic. Perhaps stereotypes have led to misunderstandings about the culture of a particular group of people. There are numerous other reasons why a topic can be significant. In our society, which is growing ever more diverse with time, it is important for people to have an awareness of the many different cultures exist. You can come up with your own reasons, but they must be included in your statement of purpose. Be sure to include why this topic is personally significant to you as well as to the field of race studies.
Research Questions There should be at least three(3) questions, but if you have more, feel free to include them. Remember, in formulating these questions, that you are responsible for discussing: the ethnic group in its place of origin (for American Indian and Mexican American groups, discuss the ethnic group before colonization); the cultural practice before incorporation into the United States; how the ethnic group became part of the United States and its experiences within the U.S.; and how the cultural practice has changed within the U.S. and as a result of the groups experiences. These questions should require critical assessment and exploration of the cultural practice. These should also invoke critique and offer a reflection of the ways you once thought of the topic and how your view has changed throughout the time of this research project. These should be constructed around proving and in support of your thesis.
General Outline A standard outline is required. It is expected that your revised statement will be more detailed. For this initial statement, be sure to (i) demonstrate how your paper will be organized, (ii)include your research question, (iii) offer the historical background of your ethnic group as well as (iv) provide a general description of the cultural practice and its significance to the group. Your paper should analyze the ways in which the cultural practice has changed since the ethnic group in question became part of the United States. If your outline does not include the pieces mentioned above or offer a pathway toward proving your thesis, you will NOT receive full credit in this area.
15-Reference Page This should be on a separate page, but included in your statement of purpose. Your references should only include the sources that you can gain access to and that you are seriously thinking about using for your paper. Most of your sources should be books and journal articles. If you rely too heavily on newspaper articles, opinion pieces, websites, or other non-academic sources, you will be asked to redo your references and will NOT receive full credit in this area.Your references should be formatted in APA citation style. For specifics about the format, please refer to course textbook, or the APA Style Guide (6th edition). Bibliography entries must be in alphabetical order according to the last name of the author.Double space between entries and single space within each entry (refer to samples in the citation guide). Also, within entries, each line after the first should be indented (use tab key). Use one-inch margins.
Please strictly follow the instructions above !!!!
The format is very important!!!
I also upload the original statement, please do all the work based on it.
