ABSTRACT
Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (KDCA) serves as the domestic counterpart to Washington-Dulles International Airport (KIAD), which collectively service the Washington DC metropolitan area. This paper will examine the policies, procedures, and authorities that ensure the robust security requirements that exist within our nations Capital. Additionally, this paper will explore the unique challenges that the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority (MWAA) have addressed in maintaining the safe, efficient operation while minimizing the impact that airport operations have on the surrounding community. The history of Reagan National Airport will be explored and display the growth that KDCA has experienced since its opening in 1941 leading to the planned modifications that will sustain the regions future domestic air travel.
