Self

In 500-700 words, write a detailed narrative (story) of a time in your own experience(s) when your gender has been salient – meaning at the front of your mind in your interactions. This could be when you learned what it meant to be masculine/feminine. Drawing from social learning theory, it could be a time when you experienced rewards/punishments due to your gender performance. With autoethnography and storytelling we are looking for a detail-rich narrative. This includes the description of the context including many of the senses – what did the space look, smell, sound feel like? Who are the players/characters in the story? What do they look like? What was said? What were you thinking? This section will be graded on your ability to “paint a picture” of the moment in the reader’s mind.
