For this assignment you will choose to examine either a cultural process OR a specific concept within sociology/anthropology of culture to discuss. If you choose a cultural process: Individuals and groups create, integrate and live culture in a multiplicity of forms. It is contained and expressed through practices, rituals, spaces, places
and times, and objects. Choose a cultural process that relates to a cultural expression and describe how it is a cultural expression, its form (what) and function (why). In addition, you should discuss its origins, changes over time, influence and impact on a society. What is the cultural process and what makes this cultural practice persist over time?
If you choose a conceptual analysis: Sociologists/anthropologists use concepts to describe a social process [the social world], phenomenon or a group of individuals who participate in common practices. This is your opportunity to explore a concept through the work of primary authors. In this analysis you will identify and describe the importance of the authors to the concept you’ve chosen to explore. What activities, phenomenon, rituals, practices, etc. were the author(s) originally attempting to explain? In addition, you need to define the concept, discuss it historically (the changes over time to the substance of the concept), and how these changes have impacted the concepts use and sites of applicability.
Further details to follow on both these options.
