Step 1: Conduct a job search
Conduct a job search for the sustainability job you are hoping to one day have. You may search on Indeed.com; Monster.com; or a specific corporation job site. When you have located a posting that appeals to you, print the webpage as a PDF [right click >> select Print >> Select “Print as PDF” or “Save as PDF” depending on your browser]. You will attach this document to your submission.
Step 2: Complete the 2-Column Table Exercise
As indicated on the lesson page, the very best way to prepare for your cover letter is to create a 2-column table.
Into the boxes on the left, copy and paste the job qualifications, job duties, and company vision/mission from the job posting and the company website, each item in a separate box.
In the boxes on the right you will describe your qualifications using their exact words so that it is clear how your past experience meets the employer’s needs. If you are not yet qualified for that position, please just put the qualifications you don’t yet have in bold and underlined. Now you know which skills, credentials, and experience you need to acquire!
This exercise will prepare you for your final project.
