It must have a clearly described topic, a clear outline, plus 10 sources.

Make an attempt to include print sources when possible.

You must include either the print or online Grove/Oxford Music online article.  (“Print sources,” refers to print books and articles, and online versions of print books and articles, such as JSTOR.

The term paper topic, description, and bibliography MUST be turned in by 10/30/2023.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE TERM PAPER

The completed term paper is due on 12/4/2023.

The term paper is graded in four areas of equal weight (25% each):

The Grove/Oxford Music Online source is required!

Be sure to look the SJT library catalogue for print sources!

Gather sources and assemble a bibliography.

You must use at least 10 sources to include some print sources (or print reproduced online, such as JSTOR) sources and a mix of on-line sources.

Avoid the Wikipedia site.

Investigate the historical, artistic, political, or philosophical context of your composer.

How and why are extra-musical events important?

You must cite and explain musical and extra-musical context for at least TWO appropriate, significant musical compositions by your composer. This is a major feature of this paper.

This paper should be approximately 5 pages long, typed in Microsoft Word, Times New Roman size 12 font, double-spaced, default margin settings.

You must cite all sources and ensure that quotations are properly attributed. Style of citation for bibliography and notes must follow correct standards (MLA or Chicago Manual).

Please proofread and prune out the excess verbiage.

Try reading your paper out loud.

Do a spell check!  Do a grammar check.

Check in your research sources for spellings of musical terms, composer names, and composition titles.  Do NOT misspell your composer’s name!

Plagiarism will not be tolerated and will result in a grade of F for this project
