The first portion has us preparing a solution of octanol

I am about to perform a lab oxidizing cyclooctanol to cylcooctanone. The first portion has us preparing a solution of octanol acetone and glacial acetic acid and then adding bleach. I have to figure out how much acetone to add but I don’t know how to do so and am not sure what role it plays here and why it is needed? I understand (I think) that bleach and glacial acetic acid form hypochlorous acid and that is what will be the oxidizing agent.
