Ultimately, your essay needs to identify the problem and why it matters with evidence, be cognizant of the target audience, persuade that audience to make a change with evidence, and provide them with an evidence-based potential solution.
Audience: You’ll need to figure out who has the power to impact the problem you’re writing about specifically. You don’t want a huge group like “Americans” or “students.” Try to give yourself a narrow focus so that you can better tailor your argument. Whoever your audience is, you should assume they’re willing to listen to you, but also understand that they dont necessarily see things the way that you do or they may have other concerns/priorities in mind. Youll need to use evidence to persuade them to make this change, not just for your own individual benefit, but for the greater good of the community.
