The Value and Meaning of Perspective

Select a fictional text of your choice and write a paper that aims to convince your readers of the importance of perspective in understanding and interpreting the work.  How does perspective alter and create meaning?  Choose a work that interests you—a comic book, a short story, a novel, a movie, TV show episode, music video, painting, etc.  The subgenre doesn’t matter, but it should interest you, be well-known (not a friend’s music video or artwork, etc.), and it must be a work of fiction.

You may NOT choose an assigned reading for this project.

·       Write the paper as if the reader has not read or watched the fictional text, but focus on analysis.  Use plot summary only when essential to clarifying a point.

·       See and follow “Writing Documents” on Canvas; pay careful attention to “Close Readings and Literary Analysis” and “Writing Rules.”

·       2-4 pages, fully revised and MLA-formatted (plus a works cited page—cite the text you’ve selected to write about)

·       No research or outside sources; I want to see your argument and analysis (there will be plenty of time for research later).  If an outside source is essential to your point about perspective, come see me before using (and citing) it.
