This assignment offers an chance for you to:

  • Analyze and interpret assigned readings.
  • Communicate ideas effectively through writing.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the assigned readings.
  • Practice the critical and analytical methodologies of the Huminites and/or Fine Arts.

The Task:

Initial post:

Part 1:  Write a 200 to 300 word paragraph proposing your research topic. In your paragraph, explain what your proposed research topic will be and why you chose the topic and what the benefit of the research will be. The possibilities for your topic are endless, but if you are searching for ideas, you may consider how your research will explore concepts such as how the literature demonstrates shifts and changes in socio-economics, geopolitical conditions, gender norms, ethnicity, race, religious beliefs, ideological beliefs, the structure of literature, the focus of literature, etc. Your goal should be to create a compelling paragraph that argues passionately for your research on the topic, so make certain you are invested in your topic.

Part 2: In addition to your proposal paragraph, state a question you hope your research will answer. Keep in mind, your research question may be modified or change as you learn more about your topic. However, you should present a question that requires more than a “yes” or “no” response.

Response Post

The second part of your discussion board assignment is to respond to at least two other students research proposal paragraphs. Your responses should run at least three sentences long. Avoid simply saying you agree or you like what your peer said. Instead, if you agree or you if like what your peer has written, focus your response on explaining why. Likewise, respectfully disagreeing with a post and explaining why based on evidence from the literature is a legitimate manner of engaging and contributing to the ongoing conversation.
