This reflection asks you to analyze kinship relations in your own family, drawing on materials presented in class, including readings and lecture presentations. How do you define “family?” Is your family similar to, or different from, other families in your community? What are some of the kin-defined roles or statuses in your family, why do you think they exist, and how are they performed?

Requirements:

  • Your reflection should be between 550 and 750 words, not including bibliographic citations or references, and written in a first-person perspective (i.e., using “I” pronouns). Your submission may be either single- or double-spaced and must include a bibliography or works cited.
  • You must cite at least three course concepts and reference at least two chapters from our textbook and at least one outside source. You are strongly encouraged to define course concepts and ideas in your own words, e.g., paraphrasing rather than directly quoting course materials.
