- Note: some of the content below may be triggering for some viewers. Please be certain to review the summary of each option before watching the content. If you select a television series, you do not need to watch all episodes of the series. Instead, watch enough content in order to be able to complete the requirements for this assignment. The decision on how many show episodes to watch is up to you.

- The Color Purple – This movie is an epic tale spanning 40 years in the life of Celie (Whoopi Goldberg), an African-American woman living in the South who survives incredible abuse and bigotry. After Celie’s abusive father marries her off to the equally debasing “Mister” Albert Johnson (Danny Glover), things go from bad to worse, leaving Celie to find companionship anywhere she can. She perseveres, holding on to her dream of one day being reunited with her sister in Africa. Based on the novel by Alice Walker.
- Abducted in Plain Sight – This Netflix documentary chronicles the peculiar kidnapping case of Jan Broberg, an Idaho teenager who was abducted by her decades-older neighbor Robert Berchtold in the 1970s. But Berchtoldknown as Bdid not just kidnap Broberg once; he entrapped Jans religious parents in such a web of trust, shame, and complicity that he managed to convince the family to drop the most serious kidnapping charges against him, continue letting him spend disturbing amounts of time with their young daughter, andin the most shocking twist of allhe eventually kidnapped her a second time.
- Precious – This movie features a 16-year-old Claireece “Precious” Jones (Gabourey Sidibe) who is pregnant by her own father for the second time. Previous can neither read nor write and suffers constant abuse at the hands of her vicious mother (Mo’Nique). Precious instinctively sees a chance to turn her life around when she is offered the opportunity to transfer to an alternative school. Under the patient, firm guidance of her new teacher, Ms. Rain (Paula Patton), Precious begins the journey from oppression to self-determination.

Description/Assessment of Family:
- Following the framework you used for your first paper, for this Family Assessment assignment, you will also provide an overall description of the family that includes discussion of relevant biopsychosocialspiritual + environmental factors, along with key figures within the family.
- Similar to your first paper, you will also include a genogram and an ecomap, with a “legend’ or ‘key’. The genogram and ecomap will be included as appendices. Appendix A will consist of your genogram and Appendix B will consist of your ecomap. Appendix A and Appendix B will be placed at the very end of your paper, after the references.
- Also, be certain to include discussion related to:
- family communication pattern(s)/style(s); and
- resiliency, diversity, stressors, risks, and protective factors.
- In this section of your paper, indicate how you identified the individual(s) to interview and the processes you used to gain permission to conduct the interview for this assignment. If you selected a television show or a documentary, you can indicate this detail in your paper.

2. Identification of Presenting Issue(s):
- In this section, indicate the perceived presenting issue(s) for the family.
- This component includes any current and/or long-term situation(s) facing the family.
- For the purpose of this assignment, it is ideal to identify at least one (1) but no more than two (2) current and/or long-term situation(s).
- In presenting the family issue(s), also include the reason(s) that these concerns/problems needs to be addressed for the family.
- Also, reflect on an anticipated outcome (goal) should the presenting issue(s) be addressed.

3. Treatment Model & Plan
- Based upon the family assessment and presenting issue(s), select a model to engage in the treatment planning process.
- The model selected should:
- 1. highlight one (1) treatment approach outlined in this course;
- 2. be clearly rooted in theory; and
- 3. demonstrate rationale for use that clearly demonstrates the appropriateness of the model based on the presenting issue(s) and family dynamics.
- Identification of the treatment model should include:
- 1. an overview of the model as you understand it;
- 2. who is well known in developing the model;
- 3. the specific aspects of the model that make it ideal to utilize as a treatment approach with the family and specific examples of how you would apply these approaches; and
- 4. integration of additional literature that indicates how the application of the model used would be applicable with the family given the familys structure and presenting issue(s).
- Presentation of the model should also indicate any adaptations that should be made to the treatment approach in view of the unique nature of the family such as: (a) racial/ethnic identity; (b) socioeconomic status; (c) religious/faith/spiritual identity; (d) sexual orientation/gender identity/gender expression; (e) military affiliation; (f) (dis)ability status, etc.
- Adaptations should also be rooted in relevant literature that suggests use of adaptations based on the unique factor(s) indicated.
- Note: for this assignment, you are NOT expected to implement the treatment approach. Instead, you are to identify and write about the best treatment approach (theoretical model) based on the information gathered through your assessment.

4. Assessment of the Intervention:
- Finally, conclude your paper by reflecting on the perceived efficacy/utility of the model you propose to use.
- Note that efficacy should be based on your indication of the family unit’s ability to achieve the indicated goal(s) using the treatment model you have identified. This component should also be based on your understanding of the family and any relevant literature to support your claims.
- Also, include thoughts of your own awareness regarding what limitations/barriers you may having in using such a model in the future and how you plan to address those limitations.
- Conclude with your thoughts/feelings about completing this assignment.

Paper Format:

- This paper should NOT include an abstract or a table of contents.

- A variety of font choices are permitted in APA Style. Use the same font throughout the text of the paper. Options include:

- Serif font: 12-point Times New Roman, 11-point Georgia, normal (10-point) Computer Modern

Paper Length:
- Your paper should be no more than seven (7) pages in length.
- The cover page, the references page(s), appendix A, and appendix B are *not* part of the total page count for this assignment. You will not lose points for including the cover page, the references page(s), appendix A, and appendix B.
- Appendix A and Appendix B will be placed at the very end of your paper, after the references.
- One (1) point will be deducted from the overall grade for every page over seven (7) pages, excluding the cover page, the references page(s), appendix A, and appendix B.
In-Text Citations and References:
- In-text citations and reference list should be formatted according to APA style.
- Paper must include a minimum of seven (7) distinct in-text citations / references. At least one (3) must be one of your textbooks for this class and at least three (3) must be scholarly articles.
- However, you may use more than seven references.
- A limit of 3 direct quotes. None of the quotes are to be block quotes.
- There is a one (1) point deduction for using more than three (3) direct quotes (-1 point for each direct quote over 3) and a one (1) point deduction for each block quote used.
