Directions: You will select ONE of the two essay questions from below and answer it in an essay format. The essay must include an introductory paragraph and a concluding paragraph. The body of your paper should have at least two or three paragraphs with the paragraphs addressing the various main points of the essay question. The essay needs to be at least 400 words long (that is a minimum, you will probably really need to provide much more information than that). 1. There were various reasons on what drove/pulled the U.S. into World War II. From the following list of causes, select the three sources that you consider most important in drawing the U.S. into the conflict: Rise of fascism in Europe; the Holocaust; Lend-Lease Act; Japans aggressive actions in China and southeastern Asia; Pearl Harbor; President Roosevelts beliefs that Germany was a threat to American democracy; the collapse of the worlds economy starting in 1929; the failure of the Treaty of Versailles. A) Based upon your selection, explain those three sources. That means actually explain what the source was. B) Within your discussion, explain why you think these are the three most important reasons for drawing the U.S. into the conflict. (It is recommended that you address the three sources in separate paragraphs in which you both identify the reason as well as why you think it is one of the three most important.)

2. During the 1950s, the United States more than ever before witnessed the rise of suburbia. A) Explain just what the suburbs were (are) in comparison to both urban centers and rural America. B) How were suburbs of those times impacted by the federal highway system and the film industry.
