Often times we say, the dictionary defines xxx as blah blah blah. Say, for example, we have the word assault. How, if ever, can a dictionary definition of assault differ from an operationalized definition of assault? There is no correct answer to this question, but I want you to think about this and discuss it with your classmates.
I also want us to think about the idea of sampling. When I used to think about sampling, I thought specifically about random sampling techniques. Things like cluster sampling, stratified sampling, simple random sampling, etc. Can you think of a situation where it would not be feasible to use probabilistic sampling techniques? Do you think the research that uses non-probabilistic sampling techniques is reliable and valid? Why or why not?
