Exploring Approaches to Leadership [WLO: 3] [CLO: 3]

Guided Response: Answer any questions your instructor has about your initial post, and respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings by Day 7. Each of your responses to your classmates should be at least 100 words in length. Ask a question about the leadership theory your classmate analyzed that will help you better understand the characteristics of the leadership approach. Speculate on whether you are the type of leader your classmate described.

You are encouraged to post your required replies early in the week to provide opportunities for interaction and further discourse within this forum. Continue to monitor the discussion forum through Day 7. Respond with robust dialogue to anyone who replies to your initial post.

Response 1

Hello Class

Three commonly accepted forms of leadership include transformational, authentic, and servant leadership.  By understanding how each form of leadership works, you can create and modify your own approach depending on what line of work you are in.  In addition to understanding your own leadership style, you can better evaluate candidates for filling leadership roles on your team.  Today, we discuss servant leadership which has been known to be the most intrinsically paradoxical form of leadership.  However, by understanding its implications, leader traits, and best organizational use, one can easily uncover the value of the servant leadership style.

Response 2

Out of the three types of leadership, which include: Transformational Leadership, Authentic Leadership, and Servant Leadership, I chose Authentic Leadership for today.  An effective leader will choose his/her management style because of their personal strengths and the needs of their employees.  Authentic leadership is one type where leaders practice transparent behavior and honesty to build strong relationships, increase motivation and create a positive working environment. It is a contemporary perspective that places an understanding of a leader’s true self (Northouse, 2019).  What I like about this leadership style is that the leader either has it or not, however, there are ways to develop the types of skills required to lead in this style of capacity.  By taking this training, you will be able to learn about theory, strengths, weaknesses, and application of authentic leadership. We will also go over the characteristic of an authentic leader which includes a focus on big results, integrity, self-awareness, consistency, and transparency.  All will be summarized by providing examples of this type of leadership.
