We are going to use this post to do two things this week. First, you will have the opportunity to discuss with your classmates any idea(s) you have for your final program plan. You will use this part of the post to brainstorm and get feedback on your project idea.
Second, after reviewing the Service Learning 4-H Youth Development resource, you will create one (1) of your own service learning projects for youth participants that you could use in a youth program.
Some help with part 2 of the post:
You can frame your service project idea from the perspective of what you might include in your final program plan in Module 7. Or, you can approach your post by thinking in general about service learning ideas you might like to see happen for kids in youth programs you are currently (or have been) involved with.
Your responses or each prompt should be a minimum of 400 words. In your post, address each of the following:
- Describe your idea for your program plan that you will develop in Module 7. Tell us what ages, type of program (afterschool or summer), topics or themes — anything you want to share. If you are not sure what content or age group you want to use, go back and review the research you and your classmates did for Mod 1 discussion. Remember, you and the class shared (in our first discussion post) youth programs you found in your area where you live (or near you). Look over those and see what kinds of activities and services they offer to get some ideas for your own program.
- Describe your service learning project in detail, including why you believe this experience is appropriate to your current or future youth program. Discuss how you will implement and evaluate the project.
