Why are primary alcohols easier to oxidize than secondary alcohols

Why are primary alcohols easier to oxidize than secondary alcohols? Like in a diol you’re more likely to see an aldehyde in the product than a ketone. Or in a mixture of benzyl alcohol (primary alcohol) and benzhydrol (secondary alcohol) benzyl alcohol would have a greater selectivity to be oxidized. Why is that?
