Write a journal

Now that we have completed about 1/3 of the term, it’s a good time to reflect on your progress so far.  Write a journal response that is at least four paragraphs and approximately two, double-spaced pages in length, in what you reflect on the following.

You do not need to answer all the questions.  Use the questions as a guide to develop your thoughts on the focus of each paragraph.  You are not limited to these questions and you do not need to answer them all.

1.  Where you are right now as a reader and writer in this course.

How are you doing in the course?  As well or not as well as you would like?  Why?  What are you struggling with?  What is easy?  Are you using things that you learned in the past?  How is this kind of reading and writing different from other courses or reasons for reading & writing?

2.  Where you would like to be by the end of the semester and how you will get there

Now that you’ve assessed where you are, where do you want to be at the end of the semester?  What specifically can you do to get there?  What strengths can you draw on to get you there?  Make a plan and explain it here.

3.  How will developing your academic reading and writing skills benefit you?

How will being a strong academic writer and reader help you?  Try to be as specific as you can.  How will it help you personally?  in future courses?  on the job?  professionally?
