4-2 Journal: The Ethics of Language and
Communication
Language has many different functions and can be used for more than
just communicating with others. Language can be used to either
interpret or distort reality, and the way we choose to use language has
the potential to affect ethics and ethical decision making.
Several theories have been proposed in the field of psychology to
explain the influence of language on how we think, and also how our
thinking can influence our language. Review the required module
reading.
Next, discuss the importance of language for professional
psychologists. Discuss how awareness of language can impact your
communication with clients. Assess the ethical implications of language
for the client-therapist relationship.
