Blood for sale

After reading Case 2.3 in the textbook, think about the following questions. Is it ethical to sell human blood and other scarce medical resources for a profit? Is it a duty? Kant and Ross might give us different answers. How would each theory view it (Kant’s Theory vs Pluralistic Deontology)? In addition to discussing this question, you can also explore how the two theories would view the sale of other scarce medical resources. Consider, for instance, that many people in need of a kidney will die each year waiting for a donor, while many healthy people are willing to sell one of their kidneys, sometimes for compelling reasons. Removing one kidney from the body does not normally compromise a person’s health. It is currently illegal, but what would be the moral pros and cons of a regulated system that allowed donors to be paid for a kidney?
