When comparing the three philosophers, Descartes is the only one that truly describes the relationship between the mind and the brain. Before reading this, I didn’t realize there was a divide between the mind and the brain; I assumed they were understood as the same. Descartes’ explanation of the difference between the mind and the brain is highly convincing to me since he can give examples and describe how they connect. After reading the texts, I believe that the mind and body are one, but that they have distinct roles to play. As stated by Desecrates, The brain has the ability to sense things. This example shows, it could smell odors, see an individuals appearance, detect tastes, hear sounds, and feel pain (Descartes Meditations I, Paragraph Six).
