Based on the results you obtained from the Foundation of Nursing Leadership self-assessment in Week 1 Lesson, reflect on the questions below and share in a post.

What is your current leadership style?
My current leadership style is Transactional leadership which is scored 50/80. I truly think it does describe my leadership style to a tee. It consists of two elements. The first is contingent reward, described as providing rewards if effort and performance are adequate. I truly believe that progress, effort, and hard work deserve to be rewarded and recognized. The second element is Management by exception described as pretty much not micromanaging people. When I was charge at the hospital I neve intervened unless I needed to. I always gave my nurses a chance to get stuff done and was always a resource for when they needed something, but I always trusted unless they gave me a reason not to.
How does your leadership style impact your decision making in nursing care?
My leadership style impacts my decision making in nursing care because I choose to work hard and provided exceptional care in hopes of being recognized, which is a big motivator for my work. Although I decided to pursue nursing for helping others, it is always nice when hard work is recognized. Also, I do not like to me micromanaged. I do my job well and I ask questions when I need to, and I don’t like when someone is in my business or makes it seem that I am not doing my job at taking care of my patients. This doesn’t mean I don’t respect authority or that when I’m in a leadership position I just let everything be, it means I work hard to earn trust and respect that I do a good job. I give others the same consideration.
How will you further develop your leadership skills?
To further my leadership skills, I want to be more approachable. I hold others to the same level I hold myself when it comes to working and taking care of patients I that can turn some others off. I know others have their own ways of taking care of patients and doing their jobs and I want to learn about all the ways someone can be a leader and try to incorporate those skills into my own.
