Choose one of the models or perspectives on ethics discussed by Johnson (Chapter 5). Explain the reasons for your selection. Clearly describe why it fits your professional field.
I chose Kant’s ethical perspective because he emphasizes the importance of moral reasoning. He argued that people should do the right thing no matter of the consequences. He also highlighted the importance of respecting persons, which has become a key principle in Western moral philosophy. This perspective fits perfectly in my professional field because we as a “team” do respect other team members’ views and professionalism. We do above and beyond to do the right thing no matter of the consequences under the leadership that the team has been assigned to and have learned to work around everyone’s personalities in our department. Each member treat each other with compassion and respect. According to Kant,” Act so that you treat humanity, whether in your own person or that of another, always as an end and never as a means only.”

The leader I have chosen to use as an example is Pope Francis. He is considered the highest authority in the Roman Catholic Church. Due to his ethical character and leadership, he serves as God’s messenger to deliver the word and service to humanity that at times has been questioned. His leadership has been criticized because of women status in the catholic church and child abuse cases in the catholic setting. The media and other institutions have said that the Pope has not acted aggressively to remove other religious priests from the church nor prosecuted by the law. As a person coming from a catholic background, it is a must to respect the Pope and what he represents in our lives. In our view, Pope Francis is a servant of God, and his leadership has inspired the world to have a good heart, be compassionate and help one another. He is perceived as charismatic, lives a simple life in the Vatican, travels the world to visit prisons to wash the convicts’ feet to show compassion as all humans should have and connect with humanity regardless of our views to show respect.
The foundation I was raised with as a catholic has taught me to treat people with respect, compassion and do the right thing no matter what the consequences are.

One of the models or perspectives on ethics discussed by Johnson of my choice is Utilitarianism. The foundation of utilitarianism is the idea that moral decisions ought to be made in light of their effects. People have undoubtedly always thought about the possible results of their actions when making decisions. However, it was not until the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries that this procedure was formally recognised and given a name. In conclusion, utilitarianism aims to provide the greatest good for the largest number of individuals (Johnson, 2018). Act utilitarianism is based on what is best in a particular situation, whereas general best practises are based on what is best in most situations. To protect someone’s reputation, for instance, we may determine that uttering a specific falsehood in that circumstance is OK, but we may decide that lying is immoral in general since it does more harm than good. Instead of focusing on each action separately, rule utilitarianism particularly examines which rules, heuristics, or policies are capable of achieving this. Utilitarian tries to maintain the health of the greatest number of people, ideally the entire population, as a surgeon in my field of medicine.

2. The person I consider as an example of ethical leadership is my father. He is a teacher. An essential component of the code of ethics governing the teaching profession is the capacity for rational and cogent analysis, which my father possesses. It is crucial for educators like him to be able to reflect on a topic or circumstance while taking all relevant factors into account and preserving moral values as a yardstick for judgement (Mihelic, 2010). Furthermore, some people are more naturally courageous than others. My father shows courage in a variety of circumstances, especially when we are together in public places and sometimes on a daily basis while at home when confronted.
