My chosen project for this course is the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
The broad vision of this project was to create a more sustainable approach to handling these “mega events” like the World Cup. The committee focused on ISO 26000 which is the global standard for social responsibility, with a primary goal of creating less negative impact and more positive impact to the communities hosting the event. More specifically, the committee published an official Sustainability Strategy document which identifies the following as the vision for the event (FIFA 2012, p. 5):
- Importance of sustainability is acknowledged by all stakeholders
- Organizers and stakeholders have made concrete steps to make the event more sustainable
- Success of initiatives inspires other countries to undertake similar sustainability initiatives
- Outcome sets the benchmark for future FIFA World Cup events in other countries
The importance of scope management is the need to be able to account for any possibility within a project, whether things go perfectly as planned or experience delays and difficulties for any given reason. Specifically for this 2014 FIFA World Cup, the scope management gaps were failures to raise significant issues that the project was experiencing. Overcharging multiple construction projects caused budget issues. Additionally, some risks were not considered enough as having an ability to impact the project timeline, including hot, tropical working conditions causing work to progress slower (Planzone 2014). Scope management should account for all of the above by establishing budgets, communications and escalation plans when things are off track, and establishing risks and opportunities that can impact the agreed upon project plan.

For my final project analysis, I have decided to choose the Manhattan Project. This project had such an impact on the United States and the world, from the contemplation of how such a force should be handled, who should have the ability to create these weapons, to the impact of the mental status of its creators, the destruction to the planet and its impact on its target. The creation of the atomic bomb was a scientific marvel and a tremendous responsibility for the any nation who choses create them.
The Manhattan project was started in 1939 and ended in 1945 with the production of the first atomic bomb. (Britannica, T. Editors of Encyclopedia 2022, August 29) . The vision of the Manhattan project was to create of team of highly trained and experienced scientist, technicians and engineers to create a easily deployable atomic bomb. The project scope is the for the Manhattan project is extremely important as any error could cause massive casualties. Understanding exactly what is needed for the development of the of the atomic bomb from the engineering perspective of how mechanically and electrically it will work, to the development of the theory of the splitting the atom and creating I fusion. Any step in the fundamentals of the theory and the assembly could not only mean the project would fail but many individuals would have died in the creation of the bomb.
