Assignment

The Master’s program in Education & Special Education is of particular interest to me because I really want to work with young children to set them up for success. I want to create an impactful and nourishing environment. My first interest in working with children was in high school, when I helped my mother with her kindergarten class. I got a chance to read and write with them at the daycare. I was encouraging the young children to read along with me.

One and a half years ago, when I entered LIU University to complete the nursing program, I dreamed of becoming a pediatric nurse. My most influential experience was during my clinical classes at the hospital in the pediatrics and maternity department. I worked with children with a range of health issues, from small injuries to lifelong disabilities. Seeing the sincere look full of hope in the children’s eyes was really inspiring. No matter the hardship they were experiencing, they were still laughing, engaging, and playing. I want to help contribute to that laughter, engagement, and playfulness. This close experience assured me that I chose the right path for myself: to work with children.

Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to fulfill my dream. After going through a hard time, I did not pass the program and was expelled with a GPA of 3.3. However, I had no doubt that I want to continue pursuing my dream. I immediately thought of Brooklyn College, where I studied for almost 4 years, to continue my passion for working with children. The special education program will allow me to work with children with disabilities and make an impact the same way that children have impacted me. I will be very grateful to you if you help me to continue my studies to reach my dream.

Thank you for your consideration,
