In Week 1, you identified a need (such as new equipment, expanding curriculum, change in procedures, and so forth) that you want to address through the instructional curriculum you will create for your class project. You also provided a rationale concerning why the problem or need exists, and you outlined a goal for the project. Each course assignment will serve as a building block for the final project. The final project will culminate in an instructional design plan to address the identified need. The purpose of this assignment is to document the foundation of the instructional design process, the needs analysis—learner characteristics, contextual analysis, job analysis (if appropriate), and task analysis.
Instructions
Write a 2–4 page needs analysis in which you:
- Discuss the learner characteristics that are relevant to designing an effective course for your audience.
-
- Educational background.
- Experience.
- Age.
- Pre-existing knowledge.
- Outline the data you would collect for the contextual analysis, job analysis (if appropriate), and task analysis for your project.
-
- Contextual analysis: Factors that may contribute or hinder knowledge acquisition and transfer of learning.
- Job analysis (if appropriate): Description of the job function. (Position description.)
- Task analysis: Observation of the steps needed to complete the task at an expert level.
- Knowledge or performance gap: Current state versus desired state.
- Provide a rationale for the learning theory that best frames the design of your project.
-
- Select a learning theory that supports the design of your course.
- Support your rationale with an example of how you applied the learning theory.
- Use two sources to support your writing. Choose sources that are credible, relevant, and appropriate. Cite each source listed on your source page at least one time within your assignment. For help with research, writing, and citation, access the library or review library guides.
