In this module, you had the opportunity to explore definitions of (and examples of) the concepts of shared purpose and values. Unfortunately, as you probably know, these terms are often talked about in very flowery, ethereal ways which, in many cases, seem to sound good in theory but don’t necessarily matriculate in practice. However, the research is clear that organizations that are successful do attend to these important issues and do so in a way that is actionable. Please describe the importance of shared purpose and values in this discussion question and articulate why it is so essential to be able to move from theory practice as a leader in reflecting on these important concepts.

Just like the pursuit of shared concepts and values, vision can likewise represent a point of discussion that can at times be more about theory than practice. Almost every leader who earns an advanced degree in any type of leadership or organizational development major can arguably provide a definition of the word vision. However, in so many cases the ability to establish, articulate, pursue, and engender support for a vision is lacking. For this discussion question define vision and articulate once again why the ability to take this concept from theory to practice is so essential for organizations today. Be specific in relating back to the readings.
