Having the knowledge of how to utilize a patient’s EHR allows the health care provider to know everything in the patient’s file that may be helpful at the visit. Seeing the test that have already been done, previous x-rays and medication list can help ensure that duplicate testing/procedures are not done and lets you know the medication and dosage of medicine that patient is on just in case they can’t remember all the information. Having access to the EHR insures you have the information needed at the time of the visit. Instead of having to search through paperwork and trying to read someone’s handwriting having everything electronically Infront of the provider allows a more organized visit in my opinion. Having access to the EHR changes the doctor/patient interaction at the appointment by allowing the information needed to already to available. Having information in front of you the doctor can easily see what has been done and the results. Instead of trying to find out if a certain test or procedure needs to be done, they can see past notes and know if they need to order certain testing/procedures. Having access to the EHR allows for a more organized visit allowing the provider to be more prepared and know what needs to be done for their patient.
