Define the role of Healthcare Managers.

The role of Healthcare Managers is to manage an operation. The role of the manager is to plan, direct and coordinate the business activities of healthcare providers.

Describe how each function of management is carried out by Healthcare Managers and give examples of a task in each function.

Planning- When planning you need to set a direction to determine what needs to be accomplished. One example of planning would be to set a goal and get a path to access those goals. It will motivate your employees to set a goal and get a path to access those goals. It will motivate your staff to succeed along with the company or management.

Organizing- Being organized is a high priority for a manager. Being organized means you distribute authority and give assignments to your subordinates or other level managers. Teamwork is key to having a successful company.

Staffing- Means to have acquired and maintained human resources. When staffing, the healthcare manager needs to consider vacation time, sick leave, unexpected emergencies, and the manager must ensure that there are staff that can fill in when these situations arise.

Controlling- Monitoring staff activities and communication. Ensuring that the services given do not deviate from the expected outcome. The healthcare manager should make sure that the directors, nurses, supervisors come to him or her with any issues that arise.

Directing-It is said to be the process where the manager guides, instructs, and oversees the performance of the workers to achieve determined goals. Managers must go about directing as they give the employees the instructions daily.

Decision making- Critical to all functions of effective planning by healthcare managers. They determine the process that includes the steps to a desired outcome for the patient and those giving the care whether it is a physician, nurse, or food service worker.

An example of a modern-day issue that affects healthcare managers is the lack of nurses in the field. Healthcare managers are always looking for top nursing talent now more than ever and find that there are not enough nurses working to fill the vacancies within their organization. The managers must be creative to draw the desired nurses in by offering sign-on bonuses, retention bonuses, higher starting pay scales and those extras that did not use to be an issue. I think since the pandemic the nurses are burnt out and do not want to work in a hospital setting which makes being a Healthcare manager a challenging task to keep the hospitals full of nurses.
