First Draft of a Review Writing Assignment
Assignment 1:
Write a 750-1,000 word review of a website about ADD or ADHD. You will write this review for the general public, so you might target a particular publication, such as a student or local newspaper or one of the national magazines. This will help you anticipate what your readers already know, what they value, and what criteria they accept as a basis of evaluation. Complete the following:
- Develop a set of criteria that the general public would see as acceptable for a website about diseases and disorders (like ADHD).
- Describe the website you have chosen, and then explain how it does (or does not) perform the criteria you established above.
- Use at least two scholarly sources outside of class texts to augment your understanding and perspective on these facts and elements. Use the GCU library for sources. Include this research in the paper in an appropriate scholarly manner.
Prepare this assignment according to the APA guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

In addition to submitting this draft to your instructor, you must also post this draft as an attachment in the Week 4 Peer Review forum by Day 3 of Week 4.
- Review a website, – not an article, and not a single webpage. The directions say this specifically, and it is with good reason. We are trying to review a website to help build your skills at determining if it is a valid source. We could review an article, but we would use different standards. Remember that a website is all pages combined, not a single page of ADHD
- Do Not Review the CDC – Instead, review any other medical website that covers ADHD. I also am willing to accept websites on other topics, but you would need to run the website by me first (send a Private Forum message).
- Use 3 of the 5 criteria from the course materials – Do not make up your own criteria. As I mentioned previously, we are reviewing with a specific purpose in mind, which is why we want to use these specific criteria.
- Use the Textbook – There is an entire chapter on this specific paper written for this course. If you read this carefully and take notes, you will likely submit a better paper.
- Meet the minimum word count/source requirements to earn full credit – I do not take off for quality unless you submit something that is not a review essay. If you meet the minimum requirements, you will probably earn full credit.
- Attachments – See the attachments for an outline, the APA template, and a sample review essay.

Assessment Description
Which website did you choose to evaluate for your essay assignment? Please provide the URL of the website and the name. Post a message in which you describe your web site (at least one paragraph), and then offer some analysis of the website and how it meets the criteria (at least one more paragraph).
Which of the criteria you learned about earlier will you apply to the website and why? Do you feel your website matches up to the criteria, and does it appear to be an effective and valuable website? Use details and examples from the website to support your answer.
