Module 1:  Literary Theories

 

In this course, students learn how to hone their writing to better articulate their arguments, conduct research and evaluate sources, record their research in an academic paper, and deliver their findings in a presentation format. In the assignments in this course, students will demonstrate what they have learned by selecting a research topic, choosing your sources, developing your argument, writing a research paper, and delivering a final project.

1. Read and listen to  “I want to be,”  a poem by Maia Mayor (new tab).Links to an external site.

2. Evaluate, analyze, and interpret the poem from the perspective of at least three of the following literary theories:

A. New Criticism/Formalism

B. Reader-Response Criticism

C. Feminist Criticism

D. New Historicism Criticism

E. Media Criticism

3. Write a one-page paper for your analysis.

4. Submit the assignment by the due date for evaluation.

 

Grading Criteria

· Quality of presentation of the substantive issues demonstrates an understanding of the topic and knowledge of the topic

· Writing level: writing is clear concise, and arguments are logical

· Citations: appropriate use of relevant sources

Submission Instructions:

· Submit your assignment by 11:59 pm ET on Sunday.

· Contribute a minimum of one page. It should include academic sources, formatted and cited in APA.
