Model to a Family in a Movie
You are required to select a family from a movie (see list at bottom) and conceptualize the family from the
IPCM Model. Your paper will include:
1. The name of the movie
2. The family’s presenting problem
3. A thorough description of the family’s functioning. This should include all members of the system.
4. A description of the family’s presenting problem(s) using the IPCM model. Formulate the family on
EVERY dimension of the model.
o Level 1 – Structural (Behavioral) application
** every concept must be described
o Level 2 – Biological application
o Level 3 – Meaning application (Experiential and Cognitive Behavioral)
** this section must include a formulation of culture, gender, race, and spirituality
o Level 4 – Bowenian application
**every concept must be described
o Levels 5 & 6 – Psychodynamic and Self Psychology application
5. Spiritual and cultural considerations for the chosen family are described. This could be a separate
section or included in level 3 of the IPCM section.
6. Self-Analysis – Provide a self-reflection regarding how you would feel if you were to provide family
therapy to this family. Describe possible transference issues and barriers. Also describe personal
strengths that could assist you when working with this family.
