In the past year, M.A. has had three asthmatic attacks that were treated with prednisone and an albuterol inhaler. At an office visit today, prednisone is prescribed for 4 weeks, and the order is written as follows: day 1, 1 tablet 4 times a day; day 2, 1 tablet 3 times a day; day 3, 1 tablet 2 times a day; day 4, 1 tablet in the morning; day 5, one-half tablet in the morning. Albuterol inhaler 2 puffs PRN for acute asthma attacks.
