As we have discussed in class, the guidelines in pages 4, 5, and 6 of your course syllabus should be read again thoroughly before you begin researching or writing your paper.

The research paper must utilize APA format in terms of Citations, Margins, Reference Lists and Running Heads. The inclusion of an Abstract can be a meaningful addition to summarize or introduce the paper but it is optional. Methodology, Results and Discussion sections are superfluous because they are only applicable in research studies and since our APA paper is not a research study there is no methodology to describe and no statistical results to illuminate or discuss. The College of Social and Behavioral Sciences [CSBS] can help you master APA Style:https://www.csun.edu/csbs/writing-wizards/

Scholarly sources means: peer reviewed journal articles and books by scholarly authors.  A master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation are also scholarly sources. Scholarly also means that your source has a specific page number and this means that you cannot use online sources unless they are paginated. Without specific page numbers, you cannot identify and describe where the quotation was found.

PAPER STRUCTURE USING SECTIONS

As of this moment in the semester, you have superior academic class performance (or intend to have superior academic performance at grading time) in all areas listed in the course syllabus meaning: (1) you have received solid grades of “A” (not A-) on at least two written exams and (2) you have attended at least 80% of all class sessions and (3) you have documented superior class participation with an email each week. After reading everything in the syllabus on pages 4, 5, and 6 about the research paper, you want to insure that your APA paper is superior. So in order to get an “A” in the course you need a 13 page APA research paper with 10 separate scholarly sources (separate means outside the primary text). If you are planning on writing about a specific subject in motivational psychology such as CHARLES DARWIN AND SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST here is what your subject headings might look like:

  1. General History of Evolutionary Psychology and its Relationship to Motivation
  2. History of Darwin’s Survival of The Fittest Theory and its Relationship to Motivation

III.           Biological Correlates in Darwin’s Survival of The Fittest and their Relationship to Motivation

  1. Psychological Correlates in Darwin’s Survival of The Fittest and their Relationship to Motivation
  2. Sociocultural Correlates in Darwin’s Survival of The Fittest and their Relationship to Motivation
  3. Spiritual Correlates in Darwin’s Survival of The Fittest and their Relationship to Motivation
