This minerals table is designed to help you organize important information about the minerals we cover in class. As you go through the next couple of lecture on minerals, you can fill in the information on the table: 

  • Major functions – look for the words or phrases in bold type in the lecture

    • NOTE: for the electrolytes, the functions and deficiency symptoms are similar, so you can write the same ones for both sodium & potassium
  • DRI for adults – this may be the RDA or the AI, depending on the mineral
  • Food sources – just a couple is fine
  • Deficiency diseases/symptoms – what conditions or symptoms develop when you are deficient
  • Toxicity or excess symptoms – what conditions or symptoms develop when you are deficient. For this, also note that
