Assignment Deliverables – submit 2 files: Written Case (Word only) and Excel document (Excel only)
Project Goal: Demonstrate your business analytics skills.
Your first step for this project is to identify a data set appropriate for application of analytics from Kaggle that is amenable to Excel manipulation. The Data Set Assignment link provides more information (see other assignment link).
Here is the source for the data: https://www.kaggle.com/datasets?fileType=csv
The Project:
Apply as many analytics models and calculations (Chapters 1 – 16) as you can about your selected data, within the constraints provided. However, prioritize your insights and focus on what senior managers care about. This project is not a calculation dump — it is a thoughtful report that uses calculations to draw insights (descriptive, predictive, prescriptive) and make conclusions that is of use to management.
The report is to senior management and should detail the insights and conclusions you have drawn from your analysis. The report needs to be an analysis (judgement of good or bad) based on the model calculation outcomes. It is necessary, but not sufficient to state and or exhibit calculation results.
The Excel document needs to exhibit the calculations in a traceable, auditable and readable form. However, keep in mind the grading for the final project is almost exclusively (90%) based on the report and its quality (see rubric) and not the Excel document. That is, make the assumption the reader will not see the Excel document.
Summary: Pick a data set. Submit data set to Sakai. Then work the data, extensively applying analytics calculations (descriptive, predictive and prescriptive) and models using Excel, and write an interesting data driven 7 to 10 page report. The report should be professionally formatted (tables and graphs a must, 1-inch margins), paginated, title page, section headings, coherent paragraphs, show data and come to a conclusion. The page count does not include the cover page, reference page, tables and graphs.
Within the Excel submission provide another copy of the raw data (untouched) to the first worksheet (tab).
Submit the written report and the corresponding Excel document with the calculations See the rubric for how grades are assessed.
Format: Excel and Word
