For this assignment you should choose one of the articles from the Possible Articles subfolder. Read through it, paying attention to how the author makes their argument, how they back up their position with sources, and how rhetorically effective their piece is.
Once you’ve read through it, paying attention to all these things, I want you to write a mini analysis. What did this author do well? Do poorly? Did you you notice any fallacies or bad faith arguments? Did you find any of their sources or evidence really convincing? Was anything lacking anywhere? Was there some rhetorical thing they did that you found really convincing? Was there some rhetorical thing you found unconvincing or that you thought hurt their credibility? If you already agreed or disagree with the premise, how did that play a role in how you responded to the article? You don’t have to go through and answer these questions one by one – I just want you thinking about how this author approached the task of persuading the reader and setting up their position.
Second, I’d like you to briefly reflect on anything you’d like to incorporate from this article into your own work. Or, conversely, is there anything you now know you need to avoid doing.
