Part A-300 words For this discussion, you will examine the information in Chapter 1 of your text. The role of the teacher in today’s classroom requires a well-developed professional knowledge and skill set, a repertoire of efficient classroom procedures, high teaching efficacy, a commitment to students, and a reflective approach to teaching. This role requires the teacher to be equipped with certain characteristics in order to perform to the high standards expected of them.
Part 1: List characteristics we might look for in the expert teacher and;
Part 2: Describe the challenges a beginning teacher might face in keeping up with an ever-changing school environment (i.e. patience, anxiety, frustration, language barriers, etc.). Include in your discussion mechanisms to help teachers develop and be able to maintain a high standard of teaching while being able to cope with the changes and challenges they face.

Part B-Identifying Exceptionalities in a Third Grade ESL Classroom – Case Analysis
Read the case study on diversity in the classroom on page 62-63 of your textbook (Educational Psychology, Moreno, 2010). Using the problem-solving steps on page 60 of the textbook with a minimum of 200 words per step, develop responses to each of the following guiding questions:
- Step 1- Identification: Identify and briefly describe the main issues in the classroom case. Then answer the following question.
- What student/teacher/administrator/parent behaviors are likely to have an impact on the student’s development, learning, motivation, classroom behavior, and/or assessment and why?
- Step 2- Evaluate the teacher’s decision-making process in the case by describing the pros and cons of his/her actions. Then answer the following question:
- Are the teacher’s strategies likely to overcome the development, learning, motivation, classroom behavior, and/or assessment challenges identified?
- Step 3- Solution: Describe alternative strategies you would use in the case with a corresponding rationale based on what you know from educational psychology theory and research. Then answer the following question:
- Are there any alternative strategies that can be used to overcome the development, learning, motivation, classroom behavior, and/or assessment challenges identified in step 1 and why?
