Please write a 250(ish) word response to Dr. Levesque’s question below:
Question: Conley’s chapter titled “Socialization and the Social Construction of Reality” draws on W.I. Thomas’s argument: “If men define situations as real, they are real in their consequences” (Conley, p. 28). In other words, perception is real. Thomas was a well-known scholar at the University of Chicago School of Sociology. Chapter 4 in Conley’s text builds upon the thinking of the construction of reality. Draw on the reading from chapter 4 to discuss what is meant by the social construction of reality, and then think of an example in your own life in which your perception was/is reality for you, even when it might look/feel like a different reality for someone else.
