Week 9 Discussion

Share one of the links to an Andy Bounds video you liked or found most interesting or compelling. Then respond to the following in a substantive post (3–4 paragraphs):

  • How might you prepare for a presentation at work with people you work with every day on a project team?
    • How might your preparation differ if you were presenting to the larger company, the board of directors of your company, or a group of shareholders at a large shareholder meeting?
  • What tips did Andy Bounds share with you that changed the way you think about presentations? What did he affirm that you already knew?
  • What value do you think the soft skill of being able to prepare and present PowerPoint slides to a project team brings to your career opportunities?
  • Do you think it would be easier or more difficult to give a presentation during an online meeting, as opposed to an in-person meeting? Why?

Please respond substantively to at least one other post (1–2 paragraphs each post). Choose to respond to those who have few or no responses, as well as interesting conversations you want to join. Remember to get in early in the week for your initial post and then come back a few other times during the week for the best experience.

In your response to your classmate, consider the following (choose one or more):

  • Watch one of the Andy Bounds videos that a classmate has posted. Compare it to the one you watched or one that you got off on a tangent with, and share your thoughts with your classmate on why they should also watch yours or why you liked theirs better.
  • Comment on a classmate’s thoughts on doing presentations at work. What have you learned from what they said? Be specific and further the conversation with your comments.
  • Respond to a classmate who finds public speaking difficult. Knowing we can’t allay someone’s fears of public speaking, what can we do to be supportive of someone whose work goes unrecognized because they don’t like to do presentations?

RE: Week 9 Discussion

Hello Classmates and Professor here’s my Week 9 discussion:

Preparing for a presentation is that you must brainstorm your ideas by getting your data together. By setting specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals. This will help you execute a successful project by helping to create finer details for your audience. By planning to make sure your presentation will hit the key points that you are trying to accomplish. Keep your presentation short and avoid any jargon especially acronyms in your presentation. Provide an overview to make sure the objectives and key results are been covered. Have a schedule to make sure there are no communication gaps in your presentations. My presentation will differ because you will schedule the meeting time/date/place and send out the notice to the shareholders.

Knowing how to conduct the meeting and how important it is for the corporation. By going over the items that you and your project team wish to implement within the corporation. Such as items as financial issues, or the election of new officials within the corporation or it could even be the short-term and long-term goals and objectives for the organization. (1) Andy Bounds suggest How to engage audiences immediately? How to keep them engaged? What’s the most important thing about your presentation? What that you do make sure that you do it well with perfection. Learning the techniques that would help you discuss the aspects of the goals that you would like to accomplish.

The soft skills will help you bring value to a PowerPoint presentation by indicating longevity by being able to conflict resolution by committing to help the company grow. Measuring your teamwork to make sure that technical skills are being matched that you may need to be an effective team member. Being flexible with active listening skills will help support and maintain a professional relationship with your peers. A virtual meeting would lower expenses because you may have to accommodate a travel expense for the team members. In an online meeting, everyone would be involved because they would be able to connect from wherever.
