Week10a

Assignment Week 7: Interview Subject

In this paper, I will discuss, for my final project of the semester, the therapist that I am interviewing, her background, and why I chose her to be my interviewee.

Licensed Mental Health Counselor Interviewee

For my final project, I decided to interview my therapist, whom I have been seeing for the last three years. Her name is Mary Hull, and she is a DBT Informed and licensed mental health professional based in Virginia Beach, VA. She specializes in personality disorders, mood disorders, and impulse control disorders. Mary has over six years of experience working as a mental health professional. She has worked with various people in different settings, such as intensive in-home services and behavioral centers.

Relevant Information

Mary Hull graduated with her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University and did her residency in Virginia Beach, in a practice called Coastal Virginia Counseling, where she took the board and got her license and is still practicing as a therapist. Mary received her license in December 2019 with the Virginia Department of Health Professions with a license number of 0701008816.

Explanation of Selection

I chose Mary Hull for my interview because I aspire to be the type of therapist that she is. She has helped me with my journey of self-discovery and healing from my traumas. Attending therapy with her is where I realized that this is the line of work that I needed to be a part of. I knew that I also wanted to help other people with their traumas, guide people with their journeys of self-discovery, and help them understand why they are the way they are. She has opened my eyes to a different way of thinking and a perspective on life. While interviewing her, I learned more about the profession and her day-to-day as a therapist. I also learned about what her life is like outside of therapy and what she does to take care of her mental health as a therapist.
