“Resilience refers to an individual’s healthy coping abilities when encountering adverse life events.” (Haven et al., p. 1, 2020). Coping mechanisms are learned from daily and personal life experience and we use them in our workplace and practices. On a daily basis nurses are put in a stressful situations and without resilience it is very easy to feel burnout, fatigue, and exhaustion. Some of the ways to maintain resilience at work and in life are to try and keep a positive attitude, develop active coping skills, find a person who copes well and learn from them, have a supportive network of friends, and last but not least self care. Different steps can be done to maintain resilience in health care facility. Resilience can be maintain by building trust, providing compassionate care and providing effective communication. Another way to develop resilience is by advocating for self care. It is necessary to reduce workload fatigue and burnout. The (ANA, 2015) states that a healthy work environment is needed to support overall job satisfaction and personal well being.
Change is an important part of health care system. Evidence based change is necessary in health care system. The required reading this week (Resilience and change, 2020) tells us that we can benefit from flexibility and patience when dealing with a change. It is very important to communicate about change in practice to nurses and patients. The necessity in change can be delivered by explaining to patients and nursing professional why the change is necessary. Change can be also delivered by practicing situational awareness and with open communication. To communicate a change with pears I would first notify them what the change is about, provide them handouts, explain them how change will affect current practices and how it will be implemented. If the change is about patient I will do exact same above process and explain them what is to aspect and whom they can contact if they have any questions or feedbacks. Anuja
